Many people prefer to exercise in groups, whether they are group runs, bike rides, or classes at the health club or gym. One type of class that is quite popular and growing in popularity is body sculpting and core conditioning classes. What exactly are these?
They are non aerobic muscle toning classes that concentrate on traditional strength training exercises in a group class setting. They might incorporate exercise bands, dumb bells, body weight, and other resistance exercises. They are great for anyone as no coordination is needed, unlike some other classes. It may take a few classes before you get proper form down.

So, how intense are they? Well, it depends on the level of the class and the instructor. They can range from pretty low impact to fairly intense. If you are a novice, start at a low level, and expect some muscle soreness in the beginning for a day or two afterwards.
These will strengthen you and tone your muscles. You will definitely firm up if you stick to these classes. There are also specialized classes that may concentrate on lower body, or abs, for example. They are great for people who will not do any resistance training unless in a class, as well as people who simply enjoying exercising in a social environment.
Some folks love these classes and stick with them. For others, they end up being an introduction or re-acquaintance to resistance training and the health club, and these folks may move on to using machines or free weights on their own.
