Football Quarterback Drills For Better Footwork

I am a former NFL quarterback and I want to talk about the Quarterback Training Drills. I know from the emails I have received that there is a lot of interest in Quarterback Training and QB Drills all over America.

Football Quarterback Footwork drills are very important and here are a couple that are used at Penn State University.

INDIANAPOLIS

Quarterback Drill Number One- The Board Drill

It teaches qb's move their feet in a tight space. The quarterback takes his pass drop and then sets up using the board to shuffle through. Do not have the qb take big steps. Quick feet steps. And make sure that their eyes are downfield.

Quarterback Drill Number Two- Six Yard Square Drill

This drill is a five step drop drill. You want to spend as much time as you can working on individual drills working on dropping and moving on the run. The drill is to have 4 cones setup in a square. The first leg the qb does a 5 step drop then runs to his right for 6 yards then forward for 6 yards, then to his left for six yards. Make sure during the drill the QB's eyes are up and looking downfield.

Quarterback Drill Number Three- The Box Drill

Have the Quarterback with football in a throwing motion jump in a clockwise motion in a one yard box. Have him do this drill 5 times. You can change the drill and make it more challenging by having the qb do cross jumps instead of a box.

Quarterback Drill Number Four- Line Drill

Have the QB use a football field line and have him jump over it back and forth as fast as he can for 20 seconds with two feet. Then do the same drill with just his left foot. Then the same drill with his right foot.

These are 4 great Quarterback footwork drills to improve his quickness.

Rhinoplasty - Middle Vault Reconstruction For Better Breathing

While rhinoplasty surgery is recognized for making changes to the outside of the nose, many cosmetic nose patients have breathing problems as well. Difficulty with breathing through the nose is a multi-factorial problem that rarely is 'cured' by a single operative maneuver. While the historic perception is that straightening one's septum will make one breath better, this is an overly simplistic approach to the dynamics of nasal airflow.

It is appreciated today that there are other issues of anatomy that make a contribution towards the ease of nasal airflow other than the alignment of the septal cartilage. There are a series of four nasal valves inside the nose which make contributions to airflow. One of these in the internal nasal valve. The internal valves exist on each side of the nose and consist of the lower end of the upper lateral cartilage, the septum, and the soft tissue around the base of the nose. The valve angle should exceed 15 degrees. You can easily see the value of this internal nasal valve by pinching your nose slightly behind the tip and notice how much harder it is to breathe. This valve area is particularly prone to dysfunction from anything that causes it to collapse, most notably previous rhinoplasty tip surgery, trauma nasal injuries, and the aging process which can cause the tip to droop.

INDIANAPOLIS

It has been recognized for nearly twenty-five years that the internal valve area can be opened up by the use of spreader grafts between the septum and the upper lateral cartilage. While cartilage is commonly used, other materials may be used as well. By pushing out the tail end of the upper lateral cartilage, the internal nasal valve angle is expanded. This is not a complex surgical maneuver to do but it is usually best done through the open rhinoplasty approach and one must be facile with cartilage harvesting methods.

The best candidates for spreader grafts as those patients that have a visible narrowing or pinching to the middle-third of the nose, also known as the middle vault. In some cases, there may only be a slight asymmetry of the middle vault area on one side, but if it matches the side of the nose were airflow is less, then internal nasal valve narrowing is likely present. Examination inside the nose can sometimes show a 'pinched' valve but there is not absolute way to measure this angle. Many use the 'Cottle maneuver' (stretching out the base of the nose with one's finger or lifting up the nostril rim) to see if improvement in breathing results. But this clinical test is not absolute as anyone will show easier breathing even if they don't have known breathing difficulties.

The use of spreader grafts in rhinoplasty is helpful both as a treatment for identified patients with middle vault collapse as well as a preventative technique. For patients undergoing cosmetic rhinoplasty with narrow noses (high risk for breathing difficulties after rhinoplasty), the prophylactic use of spreader grafts may prevent the potential for airway obstruction after surgery. Spreader grafts are also particularly useful in performing rhinoplasty in twisted or crooked noses where they can help support pushing a deviated septum and tip back towards the midline and keeping it there long-term.

Are Traditional College Classes Better Than Online College Classes?

If you are like most people entering college, you are likely considering taking online college classes. Whether you are a traditional college student who is entering college straight from high school or you are a non-traditional student who has taken a little (or maybe a lot) of time off between high school and college, you want to make sure that you are getting a quality college education. Yet often it is far more convenient to take online college classes than to worry about finding the right course that you need to satisfy your degree requirements around your schedule. It can be a real headache to try to fit in all of the courses you need into a schedule already filled with several other courses that you need to take for the summer as well as a busy personal life that may involve a job and other responsibilities.

This is where the benefits of online college classes come into play. However, many students don't want to forsake the quality of their education for the convenience of taking an course online. So are traditional college classes better than online college classes? The answer is absolutely not. In fact, often times you will have the same professor or instructor teach both the online and traditional courses with the same syllabus, covering all of the same information. Many courses are set up to allow for peer interaction with other online students, and you may even find that you form into online study groups. In this way, you can get the full experience of taking the course, but with the flexibility of taking the course around your schedule.
