Pain Pill Rehab, Do You Need Drug Rehab?

It's easy - too easy - to get addicted to pain pills. We often underestimate the addictive nature of these seemingly safe pharmacy purchased drugs, and the truth is they just feel too good.

Most of us don't even realize how bad things have become until we try to stop one day, always a day of painful realization.

But once you realize that you are addicted, what do you need to do to get better? Do you need drug rehab, will outpatient therapy work? You don't want to waste your time and money on unnecessary treatment, but on the other hand, you don't want to minimize the problem either; and if intensive drug rehab is what's needed, there is little point in delaying the inevitable.

There are few easy answers, and what works for one won't necessarily work for another, but there are certain indications that point towards the appropriateness of different forms of treatment. Here are some questions you need to ask yourself, and the more yes answers you get, the more likely you need the intensity of inpatient drug rehab.

Self assessment questions

Has your pain pill use reduced your ability to function professionally?

Has your abuse harmed your relationships with family or friends?

Do you lie to get the pills you need?

Do you lie to family or friends about your consumption?

Do you do things you regret having done because of your intoxication?

Have you tried to quit and failed?

Have you tried outpatient therapy and failed?

Are you experiencing health deficits due to your use?

Are you neglectful to your responsibilities due to your pain pill use?

Do you drink with pills?

Have you been using for longer than 6 months?

Answer honestly and introspectively, and the more yes answers you get, the greater the harm done by your addiction. The greater the harm done, the greater the need for the intensity of drug rehab.

Drug rehab takes time and energy and commitment - not to mention money - and you wouldn't want to enter into a month or more of therapy if it were not required. Think about how much harm your addiction does and evaluate your need for the intensity of drug rehab.

You need help, your addiction isn't going away, and you need to decide just how aggressively you want to tackle this problem.
